Case summary
Lawyer, specialised in terrorism-related cases. In spring 2023, a criminal case was opened against him for threatening to use violence against a representative of the authorities because of a remark thrown to the prosecutor during a court hearing. On 12 April, Idalov was searched. The next day he was taken into custody for two months. Later the charge was reclassified to threatening to use violence against a participant of the trial. On 5 July, the lawyer was released under a ban on certain actions. Initially, Idalov's case was sent to the Nikulinsky district court of Moscow. The defence noted that Alexei Bobkov, one of the judges of this court, filed a complaint against Idalov with the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation. The defence lawyers requested that the case be transferred to Chechnya because of doubts about the objectivity of the Nikulinsky court. The Supreme Court partially granted this request, sending the case to another region, the Moscow region. On 11 July 2024, Idalov flew to Chechnya because of his mother's deteriorating health. There he himself became ill and was admitted to hospital. The defence submitted documents about this to the court, but at the hearing on 15 July, the judge announced the suspension of the case due to the fact that the defendant had absconded. Idalov was put on a wanted list. On 30 October 2024, he was detained in Chechnya and sent to Nalchik to participate in the last word. On 28 November Idalov was sentenced to one year and 11 months of forced labour. On 18 February 2025, the court of appeal instance released the lawyer from punishment due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.
