Case summary

A resident of Neftegorsk, Krasnodar Krai, Kalaydzhan became the subject of a criminal case in July 2024 for allegedly discrediting the Armed Forces and repeatedly displaying prohibited symbols. In June 2025, the case was brought before the court, with an additional charge of rehabilitation of Nazism added to the indictment.

The case stemmed from images that Kalaydzhan had posted on the social network Odnoklassniki, expressing opposition to the war and the annexation of Crimea, and showing support for Ukraine. The charge of rehabilitation of Nazism was based on an image depicting a featherless rooster with a St George’s ribbon around its neck, set against the Russian flag and bearing the caption: “Glory to Russia! Crimea is Ours!”.

On 9 July 2025, Kalaydzhan was sentenced to 400 hours of compulsory labour.
