Case summary

Law enforcement authorities became interested in the content of Kalugina's page in spring 2017, prompted by a statement from a resident of Birobidzhan that her posts incited hatred towards men. At the end of July 2017, Kalugina was summoned to the police for an interview, where she gave an explanation. In August 2018, the activist was again summoned for a conversation, this time to the Investigative Committee. She was informed that a criminal case could be opened against her, and an expert examination was carried out in relation to her publications. A criminal case against Lyubov Kalugina for incitement to hatred and humiliation of dignity (282 CC) was opened in early September. The reason was 12 posts published from 2013 to 2016. One text refers to a polemic within the feminist movement, all the others are really directed against men. On 5 February 2019, the case was terminated.
