According to the investigation, in July of 2023, "through correspondence in messengers, he established contact with representatives of the Security Service of Ukraine, informing them of his desire to assist them in activities against the Russian Federation. This became known to the Russian security services." Between November of 2023 and February of 2024, Novitsky, "convinced that he was in contact with a member of the Security Service of Ukraine, sent messages to a phone number controlled by the Russian security services. In those messages he offered options for his participation in countering the Russian Federation".
