Case summary
Lawyer, member of the human rights group Department One,. In November 2025, it became known that a case of disclosure of state secrets had been opened against him in connection with the case of his client, former Inter RAO top manager Karina Tsurkan, who was also accused of treason. The reason for the case, according to another suspect, Ivan Pavlov, founder of the First Department, was that he and Smirnov handed Tsurkan's case file to a linguist. Pavlov claims that there was no state secret in these materials. "Moreover, even in Tsurkan's sentence it is stated that only information that does not constitute state secrets was handed over to the specialist," the lawyer notes.
