Case summary

Resident of Moscow, a researcher. A case of robbery was initiated against him and his two acquaintances in connection with a conflict with a stranger over anti-war leaflets. Timofeev was taken into custody. The victim, Yuri Korovin, petitioned to dismiss the case, and the expert examination recognised that his health had not been harmed. Timofeev, together with the other defendants, also paid the man compensation for moral and material damage in the amount of 300 thousand rubles. However, on 2 March 2023, the court sentenced him to two years and five months in prison, but replaced this punishment with compulsory labour. On 2 July Timofeev was released from custody under a recognizance not to leave. On 30 October 2023, the appeal court overturned the verdict and returned the case to the prosecutor for reclassification to a more severe article on theft of weapons by a group of persons with the use of violence (paragraphs "a", "g" of part 3 of article 226 of the Criminal Code). Timofeev managed to leave Russia.
