Access to Apple, Google and GitHub websites began failing around 10 a.m. Moscow time, according to monitoring services Sboy.rf and Downdetector. The share of network failures in Apple traffic reached 99%, Google 21%, and GitHub 50%, Downdetector data showed.
Users reported that the sites and apps would not open without a VPN. The App Store continued to work from Russia, the Telegram channel Wylsacom noted.
Whether the resources were accessible depended on the internet provider, wrote the Telegram channel "Kod Durova": MTS customers could open the sites, while Beeline subscribers could not. According to the international OONI project, the share of anomalies in GitHub traffic reached 40% in the morning, compared with 9% the day before.
By noon all three services had become accessible again, "Kod Durova" reported. The share of failures in their traffic dropped sharply.
Russia's communications watchdog, Roskomnadzor, told the Telegram channel Ostorozhno, Novosti that it does not block GitHub, Google or Apple's website. The cause of the failures was not given. The industry Telegram channel Heraks suggested that the sites had indeed been blocked, pointing to the simultaneity of their inaccessibility.
