The ruling can be appealed within three days, Suspilne reported, citing the court's decision. Croatia's Supreme Criminal Court will then issue the final decision on extradition.

The detained man's lawyer, Nikolai Katerynchuk, said he considers the ruling biased and politically motivated and intends to appeal it.

Zhuravlyov was detained in Croatia in August. He had previously been detained in Poland, but a Polish court refused to grant Germany's request for his handover and he was released.

According to media reports, Zhuravlyov flew to Croatia to take part as a consultant in the filming of a feature film, "Snake Island," about the pipeline sabotage. The lead roles in the film, according to LTO, are played by Sean Penn and Adrien Brody.

The explosions on Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 occurred in September 2022. Three of the four pipes in the gas pipeline network were damaged. As part of the German investigation, the alleged leader of the group, Ukrainian citizen Sergei Kuznetsov, has already been arrested. He was detained in Italy and extradited to Germany in November 2025.

Sources differ: Ukraine's Suspilne and Croatia's Večernji list report the court's decision citing documents, while Zhuravlyov's lawyer, Nikolai Katerynchuk, through Suspilne, calls the decision politically motivated and biased.
