The Voroshilovsky Interdistrict Court also barred Montyan, 54, from administering websites for two years, according to the court's press service and her lawyer Alexei Kalugin. Prosecutors had sought five years in a settlement colony.

Kalugin called the ruling "pornography" and said he would appeal it in higher courts.

The case was opened in September 2025 over a remark Montyan made during a December 2022 stream: "wipe out the security goons without any regret."

In closing arguments the prosecutor cited a linguistic expert examination that found the words contained a call for violent action against a group "named 'the security goons.'" The prosecutor also referenced the findings of a combined linguistic and psychological-linguistic examination, which concluded the phrase contained "an incitement in the form of a call" to violence against "the social group 'the security goons.'"

Montyan and her supporters said she used "security goons" to describe bloggers who stay silent about problems at the front to please the authorities, and that "wipe out" referred to banning bots in the stream's comments.

"The most disgusting thing they spread was that we steal donations. They told everyone around the clock: they steal by the trainload. They steal, they don't account for it," Montyan said, recalling the atmosphere of that stream.

After the case was opened, Ekaterina Mizulina, head of the Safe Internet League, wrote that her organization had contacted the Interior Ministry because "a large number of citizens" had complained about "discrediting the army" in the blogger's posts. Montyan had earlier been criticized by propagandist Vladimir Solovyov and Boris Yakemenko, an employee of his channel, who accused her of stealing money collected for Russian servicemen.

Montyan was born in Crimea and worked as a lawyer in Ukraine. In 2015 she was added to the database of the Ukrainian Myrotvorets website for providing legal assistance to servicemen from the self-proclaimed DNR and LNR. In 2023 Ukraine opened a criminal case against her over calls to overthrow the constitutional order, encroachment on the country's territorial integrity, collaborative activity and justification of Russian aggression. According to the SBU, Montyan moved to Russia in 2021.

In January 2023 she became a columnist for the channel "Specially for RT." By her account, she earned 4.5 million rubles over 13 months of work there.

She described her detention as follows: after rehabilitation at a Moscow hospital, men in balaclavas set upon her, forced her into a car and took her to an apartment for a search. "They said they would take us to Donetsk with a pillowcase over our heads right now and bury us along the way," the blogger said.

According to her, investigator Bogdan Bondarchuk "threatened her with all manner of terrible torments" and said "some drug addict would kill her in the pre-trial detention center anyway." In October 2025 Rosfinmonitoring added Montyan to its list of "extremists."

Speaking in court on the final day, she continued to criticize her opponents in the Z sphere. "Of course all the Ukrainian cesspits are squealing with joy right now. So what happens to traitors like Montyan? Well, did you speak too much at the UN? Speak too much on federal channels? Get yourself columns in all sorts of media like RT? Take that! That's what your Muscovites did to you, and you deserve it. I repeat, I don't understand who did this, but these people are unequivocally enemies of Russia and do not wish it victory," Mediazona quoted her as saying.
