The name appears on the plaques of a memorial to participants killed in the war in Ukraine in Chertkovo, Rostov region. The Telegram channel "Post-" reported the unveiling of the monument in late September.
Earlier, "Post-" reported, citing Maiboroda's uncle Andrei Kasyanov, that Maiboroda was killed on April 3, 2025, during an assault.
In 2024, a court found Yakov Maiboroda and his wife Anastasia guilty of murdering their eight-month-old daughter. The couple dismembered the child's body, ground the remains with a meat grinder and hid them in a freezer. Anastasia then called the police and claimed the girl had been abducted by robbers.
During a search, law enforcement officers found the remains and sent them for examination. Yakov was sentenced to 15 years in a strict-regime colony, Anastasia to 13 years.
In court, the couple blamed each other. Anastasia claimed her husband was planning a divorce and killed their daughter after she threatened to seek child support from him. He then allegedly threatened to kill her as well, but in the end the woman helped dismember the body, she said. Yakov denied involvement in the crime in court and claimed he was not at home at the time of the killing, although he had previously given different testimony.
According to "Post-", in 2025 Maiboroda lost his appeal, did not file a cassation complaint and decided to sign a military contract. Anastasia also sought to go to the war as a medic: before her arrest she was in her final year at a medical university.
