The case was opened under Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code, which provides for liability for public justification of terrorism using the internet, the Moscow prosecutor's office said. The materials have been handed over to law enforcement. The prosecutors did not specify which statements prompted the case.
According to the agency, Alekseyev "justified terrorist ideology, and also expressed his positive attitude toward a terrorist organization that is banned and recognized as such on the territory of the Russian Federation." The statement does not specify which organization is meant.
Alekseyev left Russia shortly after the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The Russian authorities designated him a "foreign agent."
He was subsequently fined under a law on violations of the rules for people on the Justice Ministry's list, and in a case over the "discrediting" of the army. In May 2025, a court in St. Petersburg banned the distribution of Noize MC's song "Swan Lake Cooperative." Performances of the song have been used as a pretext to prosecute street musicians, including the band Stoptime.
