The order from Rospotrebnadzor, the federal consumer rights and public health watchdog, covers wines from the companies Teliani Veli, Tbilvino and Wineman, as well as wine and brandy from the Askaneli Brothers. Also barred are beer made by the Georgian Beer Company, which produces the Zedazeni brand, Coca-Cola produced in Georgia, and Nabeglavi mineral water from Healthy Water.
The agency said the products failed to meet established requirements for organoleptic and physicochemical indicators, as well as safety standards.
Trade between Georgia and Russia totaled more than $2 billion in January-August, up 19.1% from the same period a year earlier, according to Georgia's national statistics service. Russia supplied about $1.5 billion worth of goods to Georgia over the period. Georgian exports to Russia rose 4.1% to $500.7 million.
Russia previously banned imports of alcohol, dairy products, fish, Jermuk mineral water, flowers, vegetables and fruit from Armenia. In late July, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan urged Vladimir Putin to take action over the ban on goods from Armenia.
