Russia's Justice Ministry updated its register of 'foreign agents' on [date not specified in original], adding literary critic Galina Yuzefovich, Proekt journalist Yekaterina Arenina (also known as Alalykina), Inna Berezkina, who runs programs at the School of Civic Enlightenment, and the video project ROMB.
Yuzefovich, a literary critic and daughter of writer Leonid Yuzefovich, left Russia in February 2022 and has spoken out against the war in Ukraine, as has her father.
Arenina is an investigative journalist for Proekt, an outlet previously designated as a 'foreign agent' and 'undesirable organization' by Russian authorities. She directed the documentary 'Katkin Sad' about a group of KGB agents who continued working with the Federal Security Service (FSB) and the anti-extremism center 'E' after the Soviet Union's collapse. She previously worked for The Bell.
Berezkina runs programs at the Russian-British School of Civic Enlightenment, works as an international consultant for Democracy Without Borders, and is an editor for the Sapere Aude project.
ROMB is described as a Russian video project 'at the intersection of journalism and documentary film.'
In an explanatory note, the Justice Ministry said all new designees had, among other things, opposed the war and disseminated materials from other 'foreign agents' and 'undesirable' organizations. Regarding ROMB specifically, the ministry said it had distributed materials 'forming a negative image of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.'
