The Judicial Department at Russia's Supreme Court deleted a range of case categories from its 2025 crime statistics, Verstka reported. The classified lines in the reports are marked in grey.
The sealed block covers all of Chapter 29 of the Criminal Code, "Crimes against the foundations of the state system and constitutional security." It comprises 28 articles used in Russia for political prosecution.
Statistics are closed in particular for cases of high treason, cooperation with foreign states, espionage, disclosure of state secrets, sabotage, organizing an extremist community and "discreditation" of the army.
Data on administrative cases has also been hidden - for "discreditation" of the army (Article 20.3.3 of the Administrative Code), incitement of hatred (20.3.1), calls for separatism (20.3.2), violation of the rules governing the activity of a "foreign agent" (19.34), and prosecution under Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code for evading the duties of a "foreign agent."
Also missing from the reports is information on crimes committed by military personnel and law enforcement officers - judges, prosecutors, investigators, police officers and Federal Penitentiary Service employees. The Judicial Department previously published such information.
Separately withheld is information on the number of claims to have citizens declared dead or missing. According to Verstka, in 2024 the department reported a record 17,500 such claims, and at the end of 2025 Russian courts began deleting data on the consideration of such cases from their websites.
At the same time, the 2025 statistics retain data on the article covering the spread of "fakes" about the army (Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code) - under which, as the Judicial Department indicated, 90 people were convicted.
The department explained the closure of access to judicial statistics to Important Stories by a change in the regulation on the publication of data.
