Russia's Justice Ministry has added the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Sciences (FLAS), an independent university in Montenegro founded by former professors of the Moscow Higher School of Social and Economic Sciences (Shaninka), to its register of 'undesirable' organizations, according to data published on the ministry's website.
FLAS was established in 2023 by Russian academics and researchers who had left Russia, and received state accreditation in Montenegro in 2024. The faculty described itself as 'the first independent higher education institution created by Russian academics in exile to receive state accreditation in its host country.'
The faculty is headed by Marina Kalashnikova, former dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Shaninka.
At the same time, the ministry added Pikene på Broen AS, a Norwegian company that runs cultural projects in the Barents region, to the register.
