The Russian Fuel Union (RTS), an industry association representing fuel retailers, has sent a letter to Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak requesting an extension of the full ban on diesel exports. The current embargo is set to expire on September 1, Kommersant reported.
The union said the ban has made diesel almost continuously available at filling stations, though independent stations still face occasional shortages. Retailers warn of risks during the season of increased demand and the switch to production of winter-grade fuel.
The Energy Ministry said the matter is being considered, with full satisfaction of domestic demand remaining the priority. According to three Reuters sources, the embargo could be extended at least until the end of September, with the option of keeping it in place until the end of the year also under discussion.
The full diesel export ban was introduced on July 8 amid a fuel crisis. In late July, authorities extended the ban on gasoline exports until the end of January 2027 and the embargo on diesel, marine fuel, and gasoil until September 1.
