Russian forces struck the center of the village of Pechenegy in the Chuhuiv district of the Kharkiv region on the morning of August 18, hitting an area with a cafe, post office, and shops. Oleh Syniehubov, head of the regional military administration, said 10 people were killed and 17 wounded.

Fourteen of the wounded were hospitalized, while three received medical aid on the spot, Viktor Zabashta, director of the regional emergency medical center, told Suspilne. The injured suffered burns and shrapnel wounds, and some are in serious condition.

Oleksandr Husarov, head of the Pechenegy community, said Russian forces attacked the village with two munitions that Ukraine's military intelligence (HUR) classifies as Banderol cruise missiles. According to him, the two missiles landed about 50 meters apart, one of them hitting a cafe. Among the dead were shoppers, sellers, and people nearby. DNA testing will be needed to identify the victims.

The attack damaged 10 private homes, a cafe, a post office, a shop, and at least seven cars. Debris clearance is ongoing, so the casualty figures may change. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the strike hit a "crowded intersection" surrounded by residential buildings.
