VK, Russia's largest social media and tech holding, has filed a lawsuit against Apple in the Arbitration Court of Moscow, according to Interfax. The defendants are three Apple entities: US-based Apple Inc., Russian LLC Apple Rus, and Irish Apple Distribution International Ltd, state news agency RIA Novosti reported.

The company demands that Apple "restore the ability for users to receive notifications from applications" and pay a penalty if the court's decision is not fulfilled. The specific amount of the claim was not disclosed by sources.

VK's apps — including Dzen, VK Video, VK Music, VK Dating, and Odnoklassniki — disappeared from the App Store on June 25. Following the removal, the company's share price dropped to a historic low.

Apple attributed the removal of VK's apps to sanctions, without specifying which restrictions it meant.
