Moscow's Vnukovo airport will acquire a 25.01% stake in the company that owns Domodedovo airport from Sheremetyevo for 16.5 billion rubles, according to sources close to both airports cited by RBC. The deal has been confirmed by Sheremetyevo.
Mikhail Vasilenko, general director of Sheremetyevo, said bringing in Vnukovo was necessary for the 'rehabilitation' of Domodedovo — specifically to improve service quality and stabilize 'production and financial-economic activity.'
Vnukovo confirmed the purchase and said it would share expertise in aircraft maintenance, cargo complex management, catering, and baggage handling.
Funds for the deal will come from Vnukovo's own resources and borrowed funds, with Sberbank as one of the creditors, RBC reported. One source estimated the payback period at about ten years at current passenger traffic and tariffs.
Domodedovo was nationalized in June 2025 following a lawsuit by the Prosecutor General's Office, which alleged that beneficiaries Dmitry Kamenshchik and Valery Kogan owned a strategic enterprise while being residents of foreign states. After nationalization, the airport was bought by Sheremetyevo's subsidiary, Perspektiva LLC, at a second auction for 66.1 billion rubles — half the original starting price. Vasilenko noted that the actual transaction cost exceeded 140 billion rubles, including 75 billion rubles in debt assumed by the new owner.
