Case summary

She is a resident of the Samara region. She was one of the key figures in the “Novokuibyshevtsy” group of the Citizens of the USSR movement. Under her leadership, elections of deputies were held, after which the “Union of Soviet Socialist Districts” was established and “warrior councils” were formed to provide armed support for the activities of the “USSR”, including the “release of hostages” and the return of “national socialist property” (there is no information about the actual activities of the “warriors”). The police drew up two police reports against Afanasyeva under the administrative article on inciting hatred, as well as on organising an unauthorised event and obstructing the activities of bailiffs. She was also twice issued notices and warnings on the inadmissibility of extremist activities.

In November 2022, charges of inciting hatred were brought against Afanasyeva and she was taken into custody. She was later placed under house arrest. In February 2023, Afanasyeva was prosecuted for organising the activities of an extremist organisation due to her involvement in the movement of the Citizens of the USSR.
