Case summary

At the end of 2010, it was reported that the FSB directorate, together with the Interior Ministry’s branch in Buryatia, had shut down the activities of Samagan Aldakulov, the head of the local cell of Tablighi Jamaat. He was accused of participation in the activities of a banned organisation. Aldakulov pleaded guilty in full, requesting that the case be heard under accelerated proceedings, without a full trial. In March 2011, he was sentenced to a ten-month suspended sentence with a one-year probation period.
