Case summary

He was serving an 11-year prison sentence for drug trafficking in IK-5 in the Sverdlovsk region. On the 22nd of October 2013, while in the educational work room where prisoners watch TV and socialize, he allegedly started to "make rude remarks on religious topics" and assert the superiority of one religion over another, as per the investigation's findings. Other inmates reported the incident to the colony staff.

Avazov maintains that the case was built upon the testimonies of prisoners who collaborated with the colony administration. On the 30th of March 2015, Avazov received a sentence of one year and seven months in a strict regime penal colony, taking into account the portion of his sentence that had not been served during his previous incarceration.
