The Supreme Court of the Republic of Mari El passed a sentence on Turkish citizens accused of public desecration of symbols of Russia's military glory committed by a group of persons (part 4 of article 354.1 of the Criminal Code). The defendants Erdzhan Kargyn, Mustafa Ar and Ibrahim Aytekin were sentenced to one year of imprisonment in an open prison. The court found that on 21 February 2022, while in the Central Park of Culture and Recreation in Yoshkar-Ola, the tourists from Turkey "wiped and shook off their feet in shoes on the surface of the pedestal of the Eternal Flame monument". In addition, Aytekin "adopted a pose imitating urination on the five-pointed star with the torch of the Eternal Flame".
