Case summary

A resident of Abakan and populariser of Khakass culture, was accused of calling for extremist activity because of a post on VKontakte published in July 2017. The case under part 2 of article 280 of the Criminal Code (public calls for extremist activity on the Internet) was initiated in May 2018. In July Bainova was charged, in October the FSB (Federal Security Service) forwarded the indictment for approval to the Prosecutor's Office of Khakassia. On 26 November 2018, it became known that the Federal Security Service Directorate of Russia in the Republic of Khakassia terminated the criminal case. No corpus delicti was found in Bainova's actions. On 10 December 2018, the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Khakassia officially apologised to Bainova for the harm caused by the unjustified criminal prosecution.
