Case summary

Former journalist of the Dozhd TV channel and administrator of the Telegram channel "Russian Emigrant Economy". In March 2023, placed on the "foreign agent" register. In April 2024, the journalist published a post about a call from law enforcers, who asked him to sign a statement that he was living abroad. "A voice named Ivan and with the nickname in Telegram "RU INAO Novy Urengoy Ivan" says, "could you provide a handwritten statement that you won't return to Russia, that you live abroad and such? Then we won't need to put you on the federal wanted list! [...]" The trick is that if these helpful officers get this statement, they won't need to put you on the federal wanted list, they can immediately put you on the international wanted list without much bureaucracy," Bakaleiko said.

On 17 May 2024, it became known that the journalist had been put on a wanted list as part of the case against him for evading his "foreign agent" duties.
