Case summary

On 14 June 2019, he was detained and then taken into custody on charges of participation in a terrorist organisation and financing terrorism. According to "Chernovik" publication, the prosecution is based on the testimony of another defendant, businessman Kemal Tambiyev, who later claimed that he gave it under torture. Gadzhiyev claims that he had never met Tambiyev before.

In April 2020, it became known that a case was opened against Gadzhiev for participation in the activities of an extremist organisation. The organisations in question are the "Congress of the Peoples of Ichkeria and Dagestan", and the "Supreme Military Majlisul Shura of the United Forces of the Mujahideen of the Caucasus". The lawyer highlights that Gadzhiev did not know about the existence of these organisations and did not take part in them.

On 12 September 2023, Gadzhiev was sentenced to 17 years in a strict regime colony. On 1 November 2024, the court of appeal reduced the sentence by two months.
