Case summary
Resident of Yaroslavl. In April 2021, a wave of searches took place in the homes of Jehovah's Witnesses in Yaroslavl, including the home of Andrei Glazov's family. On the same day, Andrei, along with other believers, was questioned by the Investigative Committee. Thirteen months later, a criminal case was opened against Glazov on charges of participation in the activities of an extremist organisation, he was detained and placed in a detention centre.
Jehovah's Witnesses are prosecuted under extremist articles solely for their religious activities: holding meetings and worship services, attractiong of new supporters.
Four months later, the court changed the preventive measure to a ban on certain actions. In June 2023, the case came to court. On the 22 August 2024, Andrei was sentenced to two and a half years suspended, one year of probation, and a six-month ban from attending public events.
