Editorial summary

Alina Grigoryeva is a journalist from Kazan who worked with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s Tatar-Bashkir Service and its regional project Idel.Realities. The service covers politics, society and human-rights issues across Tatarstan, Bashkortostan and other parts of Russia’s Volga region.

On December 3, 2021, Russia’s Justice Ministry designated Grigoryeva and several other current or former journalists with the Tatar-Bashkir Service as “foreign agents.”

Russian authorities later brought administrative proceedings against her for alleged failure to comply with the reporting obligations associated with that designation. Mediazona reported that from August 2023 she received at least two fines for failing to submit required reports to the Justice Ministry.

In February 2025, the Interior Ministry added Grigoryeva to its federal wanted database. The public wanted notice did not specify the Criminal Code provision, although the contact details in the entry showed that the investigation was being handled in Kazan.

At the time, Mediazona reported that the prosecution could concern Article 330.1, which provides criminal penalties for repeated non-compliance with “foreign agent” obligations.

By September 2026, the updated Govorit NeMoskva database identified the charge more specifically as Part 2 of Article 330.1. It lists Grigoryeva as under investigation and wanted, with no conviction yet reported.

Grigoryeva currently lives outside Russia.
