Case summary

Resident of Yaroslavl, nurse. On 18 April 2023, she was detained when she was returning home from Georgia. According to her, at the border checkpoint she was accosted by a provocateur who pretended to be a co-religionist and tried to talk to her. Guseva was then taken to Vladikavkaz and placed in a cell at the police station. Here a woman was placed with her, who asked her questions about God, and when she did not answer, started fighting and insulting her. The police officers did not react. The next day Guseva was taken to Moscow and from there to Yaroslavl. On 21 April 2023, the court chose a measure of restraint in the form of a ban on certain actions. Guseva was accused of participation in the activities of an extremist organisation due to her involvement in the Jehovah's Witnesses community. Representatives of this community are prosecuted under extremist articles solely because of their religious activities - holding meetings and worship services and attracting new supporters.
