Case summary
Charged with organising the activities of a terrorist organisation and preparing for a violent seizure of power, for being a member of Hizb ut-Tahrir. On 4 February 2016, he was sentenced to 17 years in a strict regime colony.
In March 2009, he was detained in a case of participation in the activities of a banned organisation. Together with his brother Vadim Khabirov and two other people, he was also accused of illegal acquisition and storage of ammunition and preparation to commit a terrorist act. Relatives claimed that the ammunition found during the searches had been planted on the accused by authorities. During the trial, the charge of preparation to commit a terrorist act was dropped. On 4 June 2010, Khabirov was sentenced to three and a half years in an open prison.
