Case summary
Giraldo Saray, a citizen of Colombia, has been living in Russia since the early 2000s. He was detained on 10 April 2022. The next day, the court ruled to send him into custody on charges of disseminating knowingly false information about the activities of the Russian Armed Forces by a group of persons. According to the investigation, he "by prior agreement with persons who directed his actions from abroad, provided technical preparation and subsequent secret placement of mobile devices in one of the shopping centres of Moscow", through which unidentified persons "remotely made a mass mailing to subscribers of Russian telecommunications operators knowingly false messages about the actions of the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine, including the alleged killing of civilians", "as well as about the replenishment of the regular number of troops with reservists, conscripts, foreign soldiers, and other military personnel". On 16 May 2023, Giraldo Saray was sentenced to five years and two months in prison.
