Case summary

Contract serviceman. According to his mother, he repeatedly refused to participate in the war, incidentally for religious and moral reasons, explaining that he has relatives in Ukraine. He was threatened and his discharge report was not accepted. After the mobilisation was announced, Ivanidi submitted a request to be appointed to a position corresponding to his military speciality and, if there were no vacant positions, to be dismissed from the armed forces. A few days later he was told to report to another unit. In the other unit, according to his mother, he was told that there were no vacant positions for him. Ivanidi returned home and started working in a shop. The indictment alleges that he simply failed to report to the unit. On July 12th 2023, he was detained. On September 21st Ivanidi was sentenced to five years in a general regime penal colony. He did not appeal against the sentence, explaining that he was better off in a penal colony than in the army.
