Case summary
Resident of the Kirov region, a chef. He opposed the war and left Russia for Armenia in September 2023. He applied for citizenship and was detained by the police on 12 March 2025. Zonov was told that a case had been opened against him in Russia for unauthorised abandonment of a military unit during mobilisation. He claims that he was not mobilised. According to his wife, he "served his mandatory military service, ranked as corporal, but he did not receive mobilization papers". Zonov applied for political asylum. On 15 March it became known that he was released.
