On 4 May 2011, in No. 5 (29) of the opposition newspaper "Bribery" published in Chuvashia, under the pseudonym "Alexei Kudrin", an article "Show me your language and I'll tell you who you are" was published; the article suggested that the Chuvash people in Chuvashia are deprived of the constitutional right to freely use their language because state agencies refuse to deal with it, and criticized politicians and human rights activists who have been opposing the expansion of the use of the Chuvash language from the standpoint of Chuvash nationalism.

On 21 August 2011, a criminal case was opened over the publication in the newspaper "Bribery" of an article previously deemed extremist; on 4 April 2013, Ivanov was charged under part 1 of article 282 of the Criminal Code, and was demanded recognizance not to leave as a preventive measure; on 24 May 2013, the trial began; he was sentenced to 300 hours of compulsory labor, but was released from punishment due to the expiry of the statute of limitations.
