Case summary
On 5 October 2016, Kadyrov was searched and his laptop and phone were seized. He was charged with calling for separatism.
The reason for the criminal case was the reposting of a Facebook video about the creation of the volunteer battalion "Crimea", which Kadyrov accompanied with the comment "Crimea is Ukraine, it always has been, is and will be!
Kadyrov claimed that he did not leave such a comment. In his opinion, the criminal case is a provocation by the secret services in response to his active civil position and human rights activities.
In March 2018, he was sentenced to two years' suspended imprisonment with a ban on engaging in public activities.
Since the beginning of his active participation in public activities, he has been regularly interrogated when crossing the border with Ukraine, and once his place was searched. Kadyrov claims that he has noticed surveillance.
