Case summary
Resident of Gorno-Altaisk, a city in Western Siberia. Worked as a psychologist, then in the field of cleaning and building maintenance. In 2000, a criminal case was opened against him for refusing to take up arms, the details are unknown. Kalistratov spent 21 days in custody, then he was released on recognizance not to leave. The court later acquitted him.
In August 2010, Kalistratov was charged with incitement to hatred in connection with the distribution of banned Jehovah's Witnesses materials. On 14 April 2011, he was acquitted. On 26 May, the appeal court overturned the verdict. On 3 November 2011, at a retrial, Kalistratov was sentenced to 100 hours of correctional labour. On 22 December 2011, the appeal court overturned this sentence and dismissed the case.
On 16 January 2022, Kalistratov was searched. After the interrogation, he signed a recognizance not to leave. A case was opened against him for organising the activities of an extremist organisation in connection with his involvement in the activities of the Jehovah's Witnesses community. On 17 February 2023, Kalistratov was sentenced to six and a half years suspended prison sentence.
