Case summary

Resident of Novosibirsk. On the application of Orthodox activist Yuri Zadoi, a case of incitement to religious hatred was brought against him in connection with a publication on the social network VKontakte. On 31st May 2016, Kormelitsky was sentenced to a year in a penal colony. The court added another three months to the sentence, as Kormelitsky had previously been sentenced to a suspended sentence, the probation period for which had not expired.

In September 2016, shortly before Kormelitsky was due to go to a penal colony, he was arrested on charges of attempted murder of a girl. We do not see a political motive in this prosecution.
