Case summary
A resident of the village of Novaya Balkaria (Kabardino-Balkaria). He was detained on 10 July 2025 and then taken into custody on charges of participation in the activities of an extremist organisation due to his involvement in the At-Takfir wal-Hijra movement, the existence of which some experts question. According to Kurmanov's wife, he was placed in a punishment cell almost immediately.
