Case summary

On April 14, 2021, Kutin's home was searched, he was detained and later taken into custody on charges of organizing activities of an extremist organisation in connection with his involvement with the Jehovah's Witnesses community. Representatives of this community are prosecuted under the articles of the Criminal Code concerning extremism solely for religious activities: meetings, joint worship services, and attracting new supporters.

On April 29, the court revoked the decision to take him into custody. On May 14, Kutin was sent under house arrest. On August 10, he was released from house arrest, and a preventive measure in the form of prohibition of certain actions was imposed. On May 13, 2024, Kutin was sentenced to three years in a general regime colony.
