Case summary

Publicist. On 13 April 2011, the Moscow City Prosecutor's Office reported that a criminal case had been initiated under part 1 of article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (incitement to ethnic hatred) over the publication of Yuri Mukhin's article "I have advice, too" in the "K barieru" newspaper of 06.10.2009. The experts concluded that the article contained "statements aimed at humiliating the dignity of a person or a group of persons on the grounds of nationality, namely the attitude towards the Russian and the Jewish nation". On 31 May 2011, three days before the end of the investigation, Mukhin was indicted; the case was dismissed in July 2011. On 29 July 2015, Mukhin was arrested in Sevastopol, taken to Moscow and placed in a pre-trial detention centre as part of the case of organising the activities of the banned organisation "Army of the Will of the People". On 19 August, he was transferred under house arrest. On 10 August 2017, Mukhin was sentenced to four years of suspended imprisonment
