Vadim Nasyrov

Vadim Nasyrov is an alleged member of Hizb ut-Tahrir, an organization banned and recognized as extremist in Russia. He was first arrested in March 2009 as part of the investigation into the case of preparing a terrorist attack in Chelyabinsk. Initially questioned as a witness, he was later charged with involvement in the activities of a religious organization prohibited by court order due to extremist activities. On 3 June 2010, he was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months’ imprisonment to be served in an open prison.

On 20 May 2011, following the initiation of another case concerning involvement in a religious organization banned for extremist activities, Nasyrov was searched and materials related to Hizb ut-Tahrir were found, some of which were included in the Federal List of Extremist Materials. Subsequently, Nasyrov and the other defendants were charged with preparation for forcible seizure of power and violent overthrow of the constitutional order (he was taken into custody on 31 July 2012). He was also accused of persuading and involving others in activities aimed at seizing power and changing the constitutional system.

On 21 November 2013, Nasyrov was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment in a strict-regime penal colony. On 2 July 2014, the Supreme Court refused to consider his appeal against the sentence. On 2 February 2015, the appellate court reduced his sentence to five years. He was released on 28 July 2017.

Nasyrov was detained on new charges in July 2021 and taken into custody. He was accused of organizing the activities of a terrorist organization and inciting others to participate in such activities. On 5 March 2024, he was sentenced to 18 years in a strict-regime penal colony.
