Case summary

Resident of Tver. In October 2022, it became known that a case was opened against him for calls to extremism because of comments under a post that suggested sending police officers to the front to disperse protests. The man is under a recognisance not to leave the country. It was reported that during the search they found marijuana in his possession, after which a case of drug possession was opened (we do not consider this charge to be political). On 28 December, the court returned the case to the prosecutor's office, but on 1 March 2023, the court of appeal reversed this decision and sent the case for a new trial. On 27 March, the man was sentenced to a two and a half year suspended sentence.

OVD-Info has been designated an «extremist» organisation in Russia — by decision of the Russian authorities, like other independent human rights and media projects.
