On 14 May 2021, he was detained on charges of participation in the activities of an extremist organisation due to his involvement in the activities of the Islamic movement Tablighi Jamaat. Its adherents are persecuted solely because of their religious activities. On 2 March 2022, the man was sentenced to two years in a general regime colony.
