Case summary

A lawyer. Since 2019, Novikov has been living and working in Ukraine. Novikov repeatedly spoke out against the war. He is wanted in a case of spreading deliberately false information about the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. On 30 May 2023, the Moscow Bar Association deprived Novikov of the status of a lawyer. In October 2023, it was reported that a case of high treason (article 275 of the Criminal Code) was started against Novikov. On 11 June 2024, Novikov was sentenced in absentia to eight and a half years in the case of "fakes" about the RF Armed Forces. In July 2024, Novikov was included in the list of Rosfinmonitoring with the same mark that is given to people who are prosecuted under "terrorist" articles.
