Case summary

Human rights defender, founder of the prisoner assistance project Gulagu.net. In 2020, a court in Moscow arrested Osechkin in absentia in a case of fraud committed by a group of persons or causing significant damage. The human rights defender is on the wanted list. In September 2022, Osechkin said that someone tried to kill him in the French city of Biarritz. According to him, the assassination attempt was prepared by "a person closely linked to the FSB and organised crime". Osechkin said "there were shots fired" but he was not hit. In January 2023 he was recognised as a "foreign agent". On 28 February 2025, Osechkin was sentenced in absentia to eight years in the case of "fakes" about the Russian Armed Forces.
