Case summary
Journalist of the Oryol-based Orlets media, which often criticised local officials. The media website and its VKontakte group were blocked for their coverage of the war. In August 2022, Panfilov was detained on charges of extortion from a local businessman. The journalist was remanded into custody. On 26 August, he was transferred to house arrest. On 24 October 2023 Panfilov was sentenced to two and a half years' suspended sentence. It is possible that the case was part of the clampdown on local journalists.
