Case summary

A resident of the Trans-Baikal Territory, a soloist of a military orchestra. She was prosecuted for spreading deliberately false information about the Russian Armed Forces because, on the orchestra’s internal forum, where participants' events were reported, she tried to convince her fellow servicemen that civilians were being killed in Ukraine. Podoinitsyna shared a YouTube video on the topic with the servicemen. After a few minutes, she deleted the video, but a fellow serviceman took his phone to a counterintelligence officer at the military unit and told him about the argument. The video was restored. Podoinitsyna was released under an undertaking not to abscond. In November 2024, the case went to court. On 9 December, the servicewoman was sentenced to a fine of 3,000,000 roubles.
