According to the investigation, on the night of June 20-21, 2022, together with two acquaintances, with the purpose of destroying the administration building, he lit and threw bottles with incendiary mixture, which resulted in the ignition of the double-glazed window and the entrance door of the settlement administration building. After that, he removed the pole with the State Flag of the Russian Federation from its mount on the administration building and threw it to the ground.

Full summary
A resident of Zaporozhye region (Ukraine). He was detained and taken into custody in connection with the arson of the building of the administration building of Novobohdanivka rural settlement of Melitopol district of the region, occupied by the Russian army. The arson occurred in June 2022, Popov was a minor at the time. A case was brought against him for committing an act of international terrorism because of the arson and for desecration of the Russian flag because he, according to the investigation, tore the flag off the wall of the building and threw it on the ground. On 28 January 2025, Popov was sentenced to imprisonment in a strict regime colony.
