Case summary

On 2 March 2016, nine residents of Makhachkala were brought to the police on suspicion of involvement in Hizb ut-Tahrir. Of these, Murad Valiev, Magomed Magomedov, as well as Gadzhi Ramazanov and Sharip Habibov were arrested.

On 2 March 2017, the case of Gadzhi Ramazanov was referred to court. He is charged under Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation in the activities of an organisation that is recognised as a terrorist organisation under Russian law).

On 3 March 2017, a search was conducted in the house of Gadzhi Ramazanov. His relatives reported violations during the search. According to their version, law enforcement officers, while conducting the search, "planted extremist literature in Ramazanov's house".

On 20 March 2017, Ramazanov was sentenced to two years in a general regime colony.
