According to investigators, Semenyuk set on fire a flag with the letter Z (a Russian pro-war symbol), which was hanging in the gardening community "Yubileynoye-Ruchi". After Semenyuk was released from the pre-trial detention centre, an administrative report under the article on discrediting the Russian army (Article 20.3.3. Code of Administrative Offences) was drawn up against him. The report states that the letter "Z" is a "patriotic symbol which is common and accessible for the understanding of Russians and which is directly identified as a symbol of support for the Russian Armed Forces". The police believed that Semenyuk had deliberately undermined the credibility and image of the Russian military and discredited the goals and objectives of deploying the Russian military during the «special military operation». Igor Yakovlev, supervisor of the press service of the political party "Yabloko", later said in a Facebook post that the administrative case against Semenyuk had been closed.
